Six Fun Ways to Share Your Team Spirit This Fall

As the air turns a little chillier, we naturally start thinking about cheering for our favorite teams. Whether it’s rooting for your child’s team, tailgating ahead of a college football game, or watching your favorite pro team week after week, there’s a sewing project to show your team spirit.
We know it’s important to get the colors just right when making homemade gifts and accessories to show your team pride. We’ve got you. Little Fabric Shop has the entire collection—over 300—Bella Solids, more than 50 Art Gallery Pure Solids, and all 100 Andover Century Solids. You could also use a low volume print like gingham, stripes, or Cotton + Steel Basics. We’re sure to have your team’s exact color—and if you need help color matching, just reach out!

If you’re into foundation paper piecing or want to try it out, any of these projects would be cute with your team’s name, school letters, or favorite athlete’s number added to them. This paper piecing Varsity Alphabet from Patch and Dot would give it the perfect look. It can be sized to fit your project and is perfect for a confident beginner. Just make sure you have the tools and tutorials you need to get started!
Here are six of our favorite project ideas!
For the Committed Tailgater
Being based in a college town (Michigan State University – Go Green!), our minds naturally turn to football game tailgating at this time of year. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or visiting someone else’s, there are great ways to show your team spirit using your team colors.

Backyard Caddy
This Backyard Caddy is a cute and useful way to show your team pride (and your sewing skills!). This would be a great gift to bring to a tailgate for a host, or you could use it to put out silverware, condiments, or napkins at your own party. We recommend quilting cottons or canvas for the exterior. The recommended interfacing is also available in our shop.

Apron
No tailgate is complete without some grilling! Whether it’s burgers, hot dogs, or veggie burgers, an apron in your team’s colors will protect what you’re wearing while also showing your team spirit. We have two apron patterns to choose from – The Gathering Apron from Cotton Street Commons and the One Yard Apron from Sewn Wyoming. We think making it with the pocket or pockets in one team color and the body of the apron in the other color would be eye-catching.
For Showing Your Team Spirit at Home
Team Colors Banner
If you’re planning to host a gathering to watch a game, consider making a bunting with your team’s colors. We love this DIY Fabric Bunting Banner from Homemade Emily Jane. If you’re cutting the flags by hand, you’ll need a 60 degree triangle ruler to get the flags just right.

Varsity Alphabet Lettering for Home Décor
Here in Michigan, we can imagine spotting a homemade green and white “Block S” (Michigan State University), or maize and blue “Block M” (University of Michigan) around town on a gameday. We would use the paper piecing Varsity Alphabet from Patch and Dot to give it the perfect look. These could easily be added to pillows, table runners, garden flags, or other décor projects.
For Staying Cozy on the Sidelines or in the Bleachers
Team Colors Quilt
If you show your team spirit from the bleachers on a Friday night this fall, you may want to bundle up in a quilt made with your team’s colors. Some of our favorite quilt patterns that look great using a two-color or three-color variation include these four stunners.

Mug Cozy
When the time is right for a warm beverage while cheering on your team, consider having these mug cozys handy.
