Pattern Designer Spotlight: Pen + Paper Patterns

Pattern Designer Spotlight: Pen + Paper Patterns | Little Fabric Shop Blog

This month Little Fabric Shop is featuring Pen + Paper Patterns in our designer spotlight blog. Pen + Paper Patterns is one of our most popular quilt pattern lines. Lindsey Neill is the pattern designer and owner. Her contemporary patterns reflect whimsical designs with a modern feeling. Her mission is to “give people the confidence, knowledge, and freedom to create what inspires them - one pattern at a time.” We love how well-written and easy to follow her patterns are. Each pattern is carefully designed, and many include bonus quilt blocks. We carry a large selection of her patterns. Check-out all the details below.

Be Mine Quilt

The Be Mine Quilt pattern is filled with hearts and kisses. This sweet quilt is just perfect for a new baby, someone you love, and Valentine’s Day. This quilt pattern is beginner friendly and traditionally pieced. Wouldn’t this quilt look great scrappy? We love a scrap buster quilt!

Dog Pile Quilt

The Dog Pile Quilt pattern is inspired by Lindsey’s puppy. Dog lovers will be thrilled with this quilt. The individual dog blocks are 18” x 18” in size. They are a nice size for throw pillows and home décor. Check-out our quilt pillow tutorial for all the details on creating a quilted zipper pillow.

Everbloom

The Everbloom pattern is just beautiful. Summer flowers fill this stunning quilt. This pattern offers two different sizes – a baby and a large throw. While the project is for an intermediate quilter, the repetitive quilt blocks will allow you to get into a groove of sewing if you would like to stretch your skills. We think the Flora fabric collection from Cloud 9 Fabrics would be lovely fabric for this quilt.

Firecracker Quilt

The Firecracker pattern is a celebration quilt. The vintage firework feel of the quilt blocks have us dreaming of hometown parades, county fairs, and the Fourth of July. We can imagine laying this quilt down in the park and watching fireworks on a hot summer night.

Pen + Paper Patterns also has a Firecracker mini-quilt pattern of this design that utilizes foundation paper piecing techniques. If you would like to learn this fun quilting skill, check-out our foundation paper piecing tutorial for step-by-step instructions.

Firefly Quilt

The Firefly Quilt pattern is another summer inspired quilt pattern. This fun pattern allows you to create firefly or bumble bee quilt blocks. Many of Pen + Paper Patterns include a “bonus” block in the directions. Select bright fabrics like Sun Print Luminance from Alison Glass to really get the fireflies glowing.

Folk Blooms

The Folk Blooms quilt is the first in a series of Pen + Paper Pattern’s Scandi quilt pattern collection. These quilts are inspired by the folk feel of Scandinavian design. These sweet flower blocks work wonderfully with both solid and printed fabric. This is a beginner friendly quilt. Fabrics from Ruby Star Society’s Camellia fabric collection would pair nicely with this pattern.

Larkspur

The Larkspur quilt is the second pattern in the Scandi Collection. A larkspur plant is a Scandinavian wildflower. This pattern incorporates the simple, yet modern design of the plant. As a result, the pattern requires only four fabrics, so selecting a color palette should be quick and easy. Additionally, the project is beginner friendly. The Nordic Spring fabrics work beautifully with this quilt pattern – and even better – they are on sale!

Sparrows

The final pattern in the Scandi series is the Sparrows quilt. There are many piecing options available for this beginner friendly quilt pattern. Fat Quarters and scrappy fabrics can be used to create this quilt. The instructions will show you how to use these different types of fabrics.

Geo Weaver Quilt

The Geo Weaver quilt pattern reminds us of a handmade wicker basket. This quilt is pieced together to create a finished square quilt. There are three measurement options available – small throw, large throw, and bed. The larger sized fabric blocks allow for the beginner sewist to make this quilt quickly.

Just My Type

The Just My Type quilt pattern has arrived in the shop. What a fun quilt! This pattern is packed with many different sewing options. All the letters of the alphabet are designed in the traditional typewriter font style. Additionally, a classic typewriter block has been included in the pattern that create a stand-alone pillow or a larger sized quilt. This pattern is for the intermediate sewist as each letter block is unique.

Spider Quilt

One of our favorite holidays is Halloween. The Spider Quilt pattern has all the fun and spookiness of this holiday celebration. The Spider Quilt pattern has both an all-over spider design and a jumbo single spider option. This intermediate skill-level pattern will make a lively addition to your autumn décor.

Tiny Town Quilt

The Tiny Town Quilt (formerly known as the Won’t You Be My Neighbor quilt) pattern is a modern take on a traditional "town" quilt. The design is simple, yet beautiful. The quilt is filled with adorable homes, trees and flowers. This is a traditionally pieced house quilt pattern that features six different blocks - (3) house blocks, (2) tree blocks, and (1) flower block. The quilt is customizable, fat quarter and fat eighth friendly.

Up North Quilt

This is the next quilt pattern I want to make! The Up North Quilt reminds me of camping! One of our family’s favorite summer adventures. We camp in tents rather than in campers, but maybe one day we’ll have a camper of our own. I plan on pairing this quilt with the Canyon Springs fabric collection from Cotton+Steel.

I Heart You Quilt

The I Heart You Quilt pattern is a design collaboration between Pen + Paper Patterns and Then Came June (another quilt designer I love).

A few years ago, together they hosted a Quilt Along for this pattern. I found the pattern very easy to follow and loved the modern take on a traditional Valentine’s Quilt. Liberty of London fabric was used for the background and solid color quilting cotton for the hearts and binding. This quilt hangs in the shop and adds both color and fun to the wall. (Hi! I'm hanging out with this quilt here).

Holly Jolly Quilt

The Holly Jolly Quilt is another pattern that Pen + Paper Patterns and Then Came June teamed-up together to create. This holiday quilt project is a beginner friendly skill level. Both solid color and seasonal Christmas fabrics work great with their design. This holly berry quilt gets us in the mood for trimming the tree and sipping eggnog!

Pineberry

The Pineberry Quilt pattern is her latest creation. This adorable pattern is inspired by summer fruits. She has even included directions on how to make a jam jar. If you would like to make this quilt, you can join in her Quilt Along beginning July 15, 2022. We expect the pattern to arrive in the shop any day now.
