2023 Christmas & Winter Quilt Pattern Guide
As we move towards the winter season, I get excited for holiday sewing! There is nothing better than snuggling up on the coach with a cup of hot chocolate in a warm blanket. This is the season to enjoy the warmth of the fireplace and celebrate with family and friends. These fresh and modern quilt makers have created a beginner friendly, traditionally pieced holly berry Christmas quilt pattern. Solid fabrics in red and green create a lovely color palette.
Retro Ornament Quilt
The Retro Ornament Quilt by Lo & Behold Stitchery reminds me of traditional glass ornaments. These ornament baubles could be painted in beautiful holiday designs, classic colors, or even coated with glitter! This Christmas quilt pattern is for the intermediate sewist. The Frosty Quilt by Modern Handcraft gets us ready for snow! With cute snowmen, Christmas wreaths, presents, and pine trees, we have all the details of the holiday season. This advanced beginner pattern is traditionally quilt pieced. As there are many parts and fabrics, stay organized by labeling all your pieces. Washi tape works fantastic for this!
Winter Themed Quilt Patterns
These winter themed quilt patterns will keep you warm and cozy throughout the winter season. Snuggle up with a good book and a glass of wine by the fire under one of these quilts. This is how I plan to spend a lot of my time this winter!

One of our favorite contemporary quilt designers – Modern Handcraft – created the Snowflake Quilt pattern. This one pattern is filled with so many different options and variations. Whether you prefer a simple tone on tone quilt, bold stripes, or a patchwork of scrappy fabrics, this quilt pattern will walk you through every possibility. This quilt looks adorable with the Holiday Homies fleece fabric collection by Tula Pink. This fabric is also on sale in the shop!
Nordic Gnome Quilt
So, this is just about the most adorable winter pattern! The Nordic Gnome Quilt is designed by Cotton + Joy Patterns. It is pre-cut fabric friendly. This is an intermediate skill pattern. Lots of seams to line-up and opportunities to use your seam ripper!
I created a table runner using the Liberty Fabrics A Woodland Christmas 10” Layer Cake collection. The great thing about this pattern is that can be used specifically for the holiday season by using Christmas fabrics or any time of year with a different fabric color palette.
Cold Front Quilt
The Cold Front Quilt by Wren Collective is on my list to sew. This quilt pattern is so darn cute! This fat quarter friendly beginner quilt pattern would look amazing with the Jolly Basics fabric collection from Ruby Star Society!
Quilt Patterns Perfect for Holiday Themed Fabrics
By pairing holiday themed fabrics or a Christmas color palette, these quilt patterns work beautifully for this season. Many of these patterns allow for pre-cut fabric bundles. With some creativity and inspiration, you can create beautiful home décor, handmade gifts, and other Christmas holiday quilts using patterns designed for any season or holiday.
Starlets Quilt
Doesn’t the Starlets Quilt pattern by Modernly Morgan look adorable sewn with the Winterglow fabric collection by Ruby Star Society? I just love how the simple strips of fabric around the star blocks really make this fabric line shine! This is an advanced beginner skill level pattern and fat quarter friendly.
Scattered Sprinkles Quilt
When I think of the Scattered Sprinkles Quilt pattern, I think of holiday shaped sugar cookies decorated with colorful sprinkles. Whole Circle Studio designed this quilt using the foundation paper piecing technique. We have a great FPP tutorial if you would like to try-out this fun skill. The pattern is beginner friendly and will add fun and whimsy to any home during the holiday season.
Just My Type Quilt
The Just My Type Quilt pattern is so much fun to work with! You can create many different variations of this quilt utilizing the detailed instructions that Pen + Paper Designs has expertly detailed.
I love creating words with the letters in the pattern. This beautiful “PEACE” table runner was created using her pattern.
The Ivy Quilt
The Ivy Quilt pattern is a gingham design inspired quilt. This quilt is both a pre-cut fabric or a scrap buster pattern. Kitchen Table Quilting designed this intermediate quilt pattern for any season. I love how great it looks with the Jolly Darlings fabric line from Ruby Star Society.
Star Pop II
The Star Pop II Quilt designed by Quilty Love is a super-fast make. This pattern is both beginner friendly and fat-quarter friendly. By using a holiday themed fabric, you can create this adorable quilt in no time! It is a great handmade gift to give to someone special.
I just made this quilt in the Tiny Frights fabric from Ruby Star Society a few weeks ago. You can see how easy it is to change up the fabric to get the seasonal look you’re going for.
A Little Break Quilt
This is such a sweet pattern. A Little Break Quilt pattern by Santomi Quilts is just full of love. I adore this quilt for either the Christmas home or as a holiday gift. Love of coffee, cocoa, and all things warm fill this beautiful quilt pattern.
