2023 Christmas & Winter Quilt Pattern Guide
As we move towards the winter season, I get excited for holiday sewing! There is nothing better than snuggling up on the coach with a cup of hot chocolate in a warm blanket. This is the season to enjoy the warmth of the fireplace and celebrate with family and friends. Little Fabric Shop has pulled together our 2023 Christmas and Winter Quilt Pattern Guide to get you excited and inspired for holiday sewing.
Traditional Christmas Quilt Patterns
These quilt sewing patterns are 100% Christmas themed, unique, and make a lovely addition to your holiday home. The quilt patterns are of varying skill level. Also, these sewing patterns are from excellent quilt pattern designers that accurately explain the step-by-step directions to completing each quilt.
Holly Jolly Quilt
The Holly Jolly Quilt pattern was designed by the talented quilt pattern designers from Pen + Paper Patterns and Then Came June. These fresh and modern quilt makers have created a beginner friendly, traditionally pieced holly berry Christmas quilt pattern. Solid fabrics in red and green create a lovely color palette.
Retro Ornament Quilt
The Retro Ornament Quilt by Lo & Behold Stitchery reminds me of traditional glass ornaments. These ornament baubles could be painted in beautiful holiday designs, classic colors, or even coated with glitter! This Christmas quilt pattern is for the intermediate sewist. If you love sewing curves or want to give this sewing technique a try, this is the pattern for you. The Nordic Noel fabric collection from Dashwood Studio would look beautiful on this Christmas quilt.
Cardinal Christmas Wreath Quilt
The Cardinal Christmas Wreath Quilt pattern is designed by Robin Pickens. This quilt celebrates the woodsy outdoors during the holiday season. With a cardinal sitting on top of a traditional Christmas wreath, you see the beauty that this time of year offers. This beginner friendly quilt pattern is traditionally pieced and uses half square triangles. Use the Creative Grids Half-Square 4-in-1 Triangle Quilt Ruler to create accurate half square triangles quickly.
Kris Kringle Quilt
Santa hats are a sign of the Christmas season. Whether dressing up the family in these festive hats for the annual Christmas card photo or wearing one to a party, this timeless hat is pulled out year after year. The Kris Kringle Quilt pattern pays tribute to this cap. Designed by Pen + Paper Patterns, the pattern is beginner friendly. You can easily use fabric that has directional prints as the pattern will give you instructions on how to place the fabric so that the designs are all facing the same direction. The Cosy Christmas fabric collection from Dashwood Studio would look adorable on this quilt!
The Frosty Quilt by Modern Handcraft gets us ready for snow! With cute snowmen, Christmas wreaths, presents, and pine trees, we have all the details of the holiday season. This advanced beginner pattern is traditionally quilt pieced. As there are many parts and fabrics, stay organized by labeling all your pieces. Washi tape works fantastic for this!
Winter Themed Quilt Patterns
These winter themed quilt patterns will keep you warm and cozy throughout the winter season. Snuggle up with a good book and a glass of wine by the fire under one of these quilts. This is how I plan to spend a lot of my time this winter!
Knitted Star Quilt
The Knitted Star Quilt pattern by Lo & Behold Stitchery reminds me of a handmade sweater. This detailed quilt is for the intermediate sewist. The quilt pattern allows for three sizes – wall hanging, large throw, and bed. A block can be turned into an adorable pillow also. We even have a pillow tutorial!
One of our favorite contemporary quilt designers – Modern Handcraft – created the Snowflake Quilt pattern. This one pattern is filled with so many different options and variations. Whether you prefer a simple tone on tone quilt, bold stripes, or a patchwork of scrappy fabrics, this quilt pattern will walk you through every possibility. This quilt looks adorable with the Holiday Homies fleece fabric collection by Tula Pink. This fabric is also on sale in the shop!
Nordic Gnome Quilt
So, this is just about the most adorable winter pattern! The Nordic Gnome Quilt is designed by Cotton + Joy Patterns. It is pre-cut fabric friendly. This is an intermediate skill pattern. Lots of seams to line-up and opportunities to use your seam ripper!
I created a table runner using the Liberty Fabrics A Woodland Christmas 10” Layer Cake collection. The great thing about this pattern is that can be used specifically for the holiday season by using Christmas fabrics or any time of year with a different fabric color palette.
Cold Front Quilt
The Cold Front Quilt by Wren Collective is on my list to sew. This quilt pattern is so darn cute! This fat quarter friendly beginner quilt pattern would look amazing with the Jolly Basics fabric collection from Ruby Star Society!

By pairing holiday themed fabrics or a Christmas color palette, these quilt patterns work beautifully for this season. Many of these patterns allow for pre-cut fabric bundles. With some creativity and inspiration, you can create beautiful home décor, handmade gifts, and other Christmas holiday quilts using patterns designed for any season or holiday.
Doesn’t the Starlets Quilt pattern by Modernly Morgan look adorable sewn with the Winterglow fabric collection by Ruby Star Society? I just love how the simple strips of fabric around the star blocks really make this fabric line shine! This is an advanced beginner skill level pattern and fat quarter friendly.
Scattered Sprinkles Quilt
When I think of the Scattered Sprinkles Quilt pattern, I think of holiday shaped sugar cookies decorated with colorful sprinkles. Whole Circle Studio designed this quilt using the foundation paper piecing technique. We have a great FPP tutorial if you would like to try-out this fun skill. The pattern is beginner friendly and will add fun and whimsy to any home during the holiday season.
Just My Type Quilt
I love creating words with the letters in the pattern. This beautiful “PEACE” table runner was created using her pattern.
The Ivy Quilt
The Ivy Quilt pattern is a gingham design inspired quilt. This quilt is both a pre-cut fabric or a scrap buster pattern. Kitchen Table Quilting designed this intermediate quilt pattern for any season. I love how great it looks with the Jolly Darlings fabric line from Ruby Star Society.
