2022 Mini Series Sew Along Event
We are so excited to be one of the sponsors for the 2022 Mini Series Sew Along Event. Alison Glass and Giucy Giuce - Giuseppe Ribaudo – joined forces to celebrate and share these fun mini piecing patterns. There are four new patterns that will be added to the Mini Series Collection. Additionally, these two talented artists have created a shared fabric line called Skygazing on the Thicket that is designed to work wonderfully with these patterns. The artwork is of a smaller scale, but still has the vibrant, modern colors that we love in their fabrics. Here are all the details to help you get ready for this sewing event.
How to Join the 2022 Mini Series Sew Along
To join in the fun, you will need to sign-up on the Alison Glass website. All the details about the event are located here. By signing up, you will have access to the weekly schedule, prize information, weekly newsletter (which will include sewing tips for each pattern), a participation gift, and a finishing gift.
Preparing for the 2022 Mini Series Sew Along
To help you get ready for the 2022 Mini Series Sew Along, we have created our very own event webpage. Little Fabric Shop has created three fabric bundles. Our first bundle is the Skygazing on the Thicket fabric bundle. This bundle includes all 40 fabrics. You will be able to mix and match fabrics to create these beautiful patterns. The fabric has not arrived in the shop yet and therefore, this bundle is available for pre-order. We expect the fabric to hit our shelves at the end of August. Once it arrives, we will ship all orders out immediately.
Our second fabric bundle is from Alison Glass’s Between fabric collection. The Between fabric collection is about change, acceptance, the present, peace, calm, and a lot of other good and complex words. This fabric bundle is comprised of fat quarter fabrics. We selected 22 fabrics from her collection to create this vibrant bundle.
The third fabric bundle is a solid color Rainbow Bundle. This fat quarter bundle was created using Century Solids from Andover Fabrics. This collection is a celebration of their first 100 years in business. This beautiful line of solid color quilting cotton fabrics features 100 different colors. We love the quality, saturation, and drape of this stunning fabric line. These fabrics are perfect to coordinate with printed designs and are a wonderful stash builder. We selected a modern rainbow color combination for the Mini Series Sew Along.
The Mini Series Pattern Collection includes 12 patterns. Four new patterns are being introduced this month and we should have them in the shop any day now. These patterns utilize tiny piecing and the foundation paper piecing quilting technique. Check-out our Foundation Paper Piecing Sewing Tutorial for a step-by-step guide on how to learn this sewing method.
There are tools that really make foundation paper piecing so much easier. First off, a Seam Roller will help you flatten your seams without heat. Because these patterns are small and the seams are very close together, applying heat repeatedly will eventually cause your fabric to fade. We use the seam roller throughout the piecing process and then give the finished block a little bit of heat when it is completed to set the seams.
Next, an Add-An-Eighth Ruler speeds up the cutting process. This cutie is designed with an 1/8” lip that will allow for fast and accurate cutting during foundation piecing sewing.
Finally, when you are finished with your Mini Series quilt block, the Bohin 5 Inch Precision Tweezers will be a life saver! They will help you rip and pull the paper backing off. There are so many uses for these tweezers, and they are a great addition to a sewing or crafting toolbox.
Mini Series Pattern Finishes
I have enjoyed the Mini Series patterns and have created some of my favorite sewing finishes through the years. The first time I sewed with them was at the Glamp Stitch-A-Lot sewing retreat in 2017. Giucy Giuce was one of the sewing instructors and shared the first four patterns in the Mini Series collection. He created this beautiful pillow.
This pillow inspired me to create a version of my own. Both pillows were made with Alison Glass fabric.
In 2020, I participated in their first Mini Series Sew Along. I was very ambitious and thought I could create three blocks for each pattern. Well, I did manage to finish this beautiful table runner.
It was made using fabric from the Alison Glass Kaleidoscope yarn-dyed fabric line (currently out of print). This is the fabric-line featured on the covers of all the patterns. I love how it turned out and have enjoyed using it on my family table.
One of the blocks that I made from Giucy Giuce fabric was featured in the Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine. I am so close to finishing this project. Hopefully, I will have it ready to share before this Mini Series Sew Along event ends.
My final Mini Series pattern share was a gift I created for a friend. I used the Pineapple block pattern with hand-dyed Alison Glass fabric. This mug rug adds a little burst of color to her home office desk.
This will be a fun event. So many fabrics, patterns, tips, tools, gifts, and prizes to enjoy. We can’t wait to see what you create! Happy Sewing!!
